Tempus, a technology company advancing precision medicine through the practical application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, announces the appointment of Ari Caroline and Iker Huerga as the Senior Vice President of Health Strategy and Vice President of Data Engineering and Strategy, respectively.

Caroline and Huerga have joined Tempus as part of the company’s acquisition of Da’at AI, which the duo cofounded in 2019. Da’at AI was founded with the goal of creating a clinical-first information and learning model that empowers longitudinal, outcome-based contracts between employers and medical providers. The team they built at Da’at AI has also joined Tempus, working alongside the company’s advanced engineering and machine learning teams to realize this vision at an entirely new scale.

“In the last four years, we have successfully created one of the world’s largest libraries of connected molecular and clinical data, and are committed to amplifying it with the longitudinal data and analytics necessary to produce quality real-world evidence that can be used by everyone in the healthcare ecosystem,” said Eric Lefkofsky, Founder and CEO of Tempus. “Ari and Iker’s experience makes them uniquely qualified to help us ensure we deliver the most impactful data possible to our partners that are advancing therapeutic research and discovery.”

Prior to Da’at, Caroline previously served as the Chief Analytics Officer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), where he established operational analytics as a discipline and founded two dedicated groups to support this work, Strategy Analytics and Data Products. Analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, have since become central disciplines to MSK’s strategy to advance oncology care and research. He holds an MBA from Yale University, with coursework toward a PhD in Financial Economics, and an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.

“Tempus is aggregating and structuring data at an unprecedented scale, and we look forward to applying our experience on the provider side in adding value to its library,” said Caroline.

Prior to founding Da’at, Huerga was the Director of Engineering and Applied Machine Learning at MSK, where he built and led teams that integrated artificial intelligence algorithms at the point of care. Originally from the Basque Country, Huerga holds a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Mondragon University.

“AI is already changing the way in which physicians make decisions, and together with Tempus, we aim to employ machine learning in new ways to advance patient care,” states Huerga.
